(Speaking of "leaving out," Anon at 1:11 is right - I overlooked the Royals. My fault.) If I had, I would have left Toronto's out entirely as it didn't prove my point. You'll notice that any less-than-negative Deadspin previews were accompanied by a note of some kind. If the link offended, I apologize.

But I stand by the two main points in my 6:11 comment.

(1) Not every blog post can be the equivalent of a sportswriter's column. Otherwise there would be no blog posting of YouTube videos, like you did today, nor Deadspin's Blogdome.

(2) Though my post consisted mainly of others' writing, the comparison between BP and Deadspin, and the observation that Baseball Prospectus is usually the group considered negative stats geeks - is IMHO an original idea "giving people a reason to read [Get Untracked]."

Will at Deadspin certainly thought it was. Cheers.Scott D. So you work hard. So do I. What bothered me was your line about "Canadians are generally more optimistic than Americans."

I can't really divine the intent, but what does my nationality have to do with it? I'm a writer first, a Canuck second. I took it to mean that not being an American means I have nothing legit to say, in your estimation.

Anyway, if I came on too strong, that's regrettable, but if we want this blogging thing to work, we have to be original and give people a reason to read it, otherwise it's just more white noise. Thanks for taking the time to respond politely.sagerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08757652892056684490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9212873806212061378.post-90881567007914915702007-03-22T18:21:00.000-04:002007-03-22T18:21:00.000-04:00@ Sager: Please find where I was "dissing" the Dea...@ Sager:
Please find where I was "dissing" the Deadspin guests. Finding a common theme of negativity running through most of their posts is not even close to claiming they are bad writers.

What's funny about your comment is that the same day as my post, Deadspin's Astros preview had this to say: "But alas, baseball, you cruel mistress, you tease -- could there be any pain greater than the aftermath of that World Series win? To read the Deadspin previews to date, I should say not.." Did you write Whitney Pastorek a nasty note as well?

Um, do you want me to admit that your blog has more original essays than mine? Okay, it's true.

Originality comes in many flavors, though. I compared two different approaches to previewing the baseball season, without much original comment. You posted a YouTube Whalers video on your blog, without much original comment. Should the originality of a writer or his blog be judged on the content of a single post?

Your first post on blogger said in part, "I'm not just another directionless soul who read Bill Simmons, Baseball Fever and Deadspin, saw an overcrowded marketplace and said, 'Me too!' " Well, I am. I work 12-hour days on Wall Street and find that posting the occassional blog entry is relaxing.

Of course the Deadspin guests are better writers than me. Most of them have professional writing training and experience, devote more time and energy to the task, and have more intrinsic talent to boot.

Why you felt the need to put me down and mischaracterize my post is beyond me.Scott D.
